Gossip have debuted the video for “Move In The Right Direction,” the second single from their new Xenomania-produced album, A Joyful Noise, out today.

Where previous single “Perfect World” had a moody Pat Benatar-meets-The Motels vibe, “Move In The Right Direction” clears those dark clouds away for three-and-a-half minutes of unabashed four-on-the-floor disco pop. Different grooves for sure, but like “Perfect World,” I’ve had “Move In The Right Direction” on Infinite Repeat™ at the gym.

Prince, New Order, and ABBA are the musical influences on “Move In The Right Direction,” with the synth squeal in the song’s fade out so very “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight).” Gossip frontwoman Beth Ditto did say she was infatuated with ABBA during the year-long sessions for the album, remember.

Once again directed by Price James, the music video for “Move In The Right Direction” is a vision in black, white, and red. The song’s lyrics dressing the set while a sextet of dancers flank a fabulously attired Ditto, who delivers more than a few moments of impish delight (see :50 for one). She gives good face, Ditto does.

Turns out I’m not the only guy soundtracking his cardio to “Move In The Right Direction.” Hello there, Adam Lambert.
