The push it needs?

Tonight, Barack Obama takes to the airwaves to, well, I’m not exactly sure what his campaign’s plans are for his half-hour in prime time. According to his wife, Michelle, the Democratic presidential nominee did assure their 10-year-old daughter, Malia, that he wouldn’t be messing with “her TV.”

But if Obama TV isn’t your cup of tea—don’t read that tea reference as somehow elitist—a fantastic option is yours for the watching. A new episode of ABC’s Pushing Daisies airs opposite the Obama program, and you know how much I love me some Daisies.

ABC was slow to respond to the Obama campaign’s request to buy airtime, at first preferring not to shuffle its already struggling Wednesday night lineup (Pushing Daisies, Private Practice, and Dirty Sexy Money). But after getting its affiliates to agree to shift the entire slate later, ABC’s offer of the slot was declined by the Obama folks who’d taken their money-for-minutes elsewhere.

As the only major network not airing the Obama program, ABC is throwing a spotlight on the situation with a timely Daisies ad (no, not that one): “Wednesday, you have a choice. Get political with the other networks or watch a new episode of Pushing Daisies.”

Thanks to TiVo, I can do both! But if you’re among those sans DVR, please give the winning, whimsical Daisies a chance. Obama really only needs a moment of your time next Tuesday (or now, if you can take advantage of early voting).

Pushing Daisies airs tonight at 8/7 Central on ABC.
