Postal Service ready to make some D’oh!

“Fat Elvis” didn’t get the stamp of approval, but soon we can make some room for Homer Simpson on our first-class mail.

He and the rest of the Simpsons family will be immortalized on new 44-cent stamps from the U.S. Postal Service. Simpsons creator Matt Groening created the art for the set featuring Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie, timed to coincide with the series’ 20th anniversary celebration (and the coming postal rate increase on May 11).

Currently the longest running primetime comedy in TV history, The Simpsons has certainly come a long way from the days when schools banned Bart Simpson T-shirts (“Underachiever, And Proud Of It!”) and our then-First Family feuded with the fictitious four-fingered one (“The dumbest thing I’ve ever seen,” remarked Barbara Bush at the time). Now the Springfield clan can really stick it to the man!

The Simpsons stamps will be unveiled next Thursday, when the Postal Service announces the on-sale date. There’s even a pre-order planned, which might sound silly for postage, but this time there’s no way I’m missing out. I doubt “Fat Homer” is part of the mix, though that would be awesome.
