Not Saturdance, But Still ‘Feeling’ It

With Saturday a long, long way away from Tuesday, I just couldn’t wait to feature this new stomper from Italian DJ Alex Gaudino featuring Kelly Rowland, “What A Feeling.” The single hit iTunes today.

“What A Feeling” is just the latest in a series of DJ + Diva collabs from the former Destiny’s Child-er. Following five team-ups with David Guetta (including singles “When Love Takes Over,” “Commander,” and “Forever And A Day”), Rowland has finally crossed from France into Italy, with “What A Feeling” marking her first club outing with Gaudino.

Just try not to smile, let alone move, when listening to “What A Feeling.” The absolute joy in the production is palpable and unstoppable.

With five clubtastic singles now under Rowland’s belt (yes, I’m counting Freemasons’ raga-disco remix of “Work”), I wish she would toss off any career-related inhibitions and focus solely on her four-on-the-floor side. Her pipes have proved such a natural (and successful) match for the dancefloor. Instead, she’s reuniting with Nelly and pushing slow-jam R&B numbers like “Motivation,” featuring Lil’ Wayne (really?).

On Sunday, Rowland tweeted she was figuring out the sequence to her long-delayed third album. Jim Jonsin, who produced both “Gone” and “Motivation,” has compared Rowland’s forthcoming set of uptempo tunes and R&B sounds to Donna Summer, and she’s gone on record saying she’s not allowing anyone to put her in a box, sonically. True to her word, about an hour ago Rowland posted a club remix of “Motivation,” a good indication that she plans to continue exploring her dual sides. Now we just need a locked-down title and release date.
