“Sad Dream” is one of two songs on Sky Ferreira’s new Ghost EP in which the 20-year-old explores surprisingly twangier territories. Co-written and produced by Fiona Apple guitarist Blake Mills, “Sad Dream” recalls Sheryl Crow in her sulky eponymous (and best) period — which means it’s perfectly timed for fall listening.
Today, “Sad Dream” gets a push from a new music video that captures the song’s desolate feel, directed by Grant Singer. Set on a ranch (and in a mid-century ranch), Ferreira shacks up with a no-good fella, drives a beat-up truck, and shoplifts wine. Singer’s “lights out” ending is a nice touch.
Purchase Sky Ferreira – “Sad Dream” via iTunes, Amazon MP3.
