Asbury Park, New Jersey native Nicole Atkins has released a video for “My Baby Don’t Lie,” a bluesy backyard stomp from her sophomore album, Mondo Amore.

Directed by Mandy Bisesti and Lucia Holm, inspiration for Atkins’ outdoor-party clip came from a scene in 1993′s Dazed and Confused. Since I’ve never seen the coming-of-age film, I’ve got no measure of how closely the team came to realizing their vision.

“My Baby Don’t Lie” isn’t my favorite song off of Mondo Amore. But when Atkins puts the honky-tonk on hold for the bridge, the track becomes absolutely sublime. The running-in-the-red distortion disappears and the strings come in, reminding me when I fell for her cinematic music in the first place. Major swoon.
