Jes Brieden is most likely best known (if known at all) as the vocalist for Motorcycle, the dance outfit the New York City singer-songwriter formed with San Francisco DJ duo Gabriel & Dresden. In 2004, Motorcycle enjoyed a #1 Billboard Dance Airplay hit with “As The Rush Comes.”
Since breaking from that pact, Brieden has fronted club tracks for Tiësto, BT, and Armin Van Buuren, and issued solo albums and singles under the mononym, Jes. In March, the self-dubbed “Queen of Rocktronica” released High Glow, her third full-length. Following a cover of The Cure’s “Lovesong,” she’s released the set’s second single, “Closer.”
A multitude of remixes exist to match your club tastes (from the likes of Bimbo Jones, Josh Harris, and Loverush, to name just three of the bigger names on board), but I haven’t moved past the original mix of “Closer.” The song’s gorgeous melody pulled me in on first listen, and Jes’ angelic vocals make a perfect pair.
Check out the lightsaber-tastic music video for “Closer,” and tell me I’m not the only one getting some serious Sarah Jessica Parker vibes from Jes’ styling:
