Buried treasure

December 19, 2010 0 Comments

Well, it’s that time of year again, when I sift through my blog’s draft folder and see what music I began to write about, but for whatever reason(s), left unfinished.

Treasure Fingers‘ “Keep Up” is one such victim of my divided attention, though the mix featured below did make a stealth appearance on a Free Weekend post. Released at the tail end of November, the single from Brooklyn-based DJ/producer Ashley Jones featuring vocalist Haley Small, isn’t really past its expiration date, so the song’s time to shine is now. In its original form (taken from the Fool’s Gold Vol. 1 compilation), “Keep Up” is a funky Chromeo-like track (cue the vocoder) that captures an ’80s freestyle vibe that’s old-school cool.

But what makes Treasure Fingers’ “Keep Up” a real keeper is the Jackson Uro Trans Mix, courtesy Jackson Fourgeaud (aka Jackson and his Computer Band). Now if your first instinct is to run as far as you can in the other direction based on the mix’s title, I’d usually be right behind you. But this unfortunately named re-rub is so not the kind of Eurotrash that clutters up speakers from Poland to Prague. Rather, Jackson’s revamp is an infectious (free!) treasure that’ll get your fingers, hands, arms, and every other extremity moving — if you can keep up. Hear here:
