‘Hostage’ situation

January 17, 2010 5 Comments

For music fans, is there really any better feeling in life than the excitement that comes from hearing a great new song (or in this case, remix) for the first time?

Listening to Sirius XM BPM while driving back into the city a couple of hours ago, I was instantly captivated by Kelli Crossley’s “Hostage.” But my initial excitement turned to frustration upon returning home to discover that Mike Bordes’ insanely insistent mix isn’t for sale. It’s currently exclusive to the satellite radio channel, which I’m guessing explains the less-than-ideal sound quality of the clip below. Hear here:

While the Mike Bordes mix is being held, ahem, hostage at BPM, we’ve got the Smash Mode mix to consider, which is available for download. Back in July, I was wowed by Smash Mode’s flawless rework of Beyoncé‘s “Sweet Dreams,” but having heard Bordes’ infinitely better take on “Hostage” first, the Smash Mode mix simply sounds too tame by comparison:

So until Kelli Crossley’s handlers at Nervous Records meet my demands and do the right thing by releasing Mike Bordes’ far better mix of “Hostage,” only Smash Mode’s beats can take us to another place.

Purchase Kelli Crossley – “Hostage” via iTunes, Amazon MP3.

Sirius XM BPM plays the same crap, over and over again.. It has never seen a day of profit, and hasn't been good for 5 years.

I'm not to crazy about what sirius bmp plays nowadays, so it's a wash.

Yeah, I definitely preferred 'The Beat' days, but I did recently complete a Sirius/XM survey specifically asking about "The Bagatelle Brunch," so maybe that's on its way out (if it hasn't been yanked already–I haven't listened on the weekends for a while).
