With a title like “Endless Summer,” talking about My Tiger My Timing‘s new single in August might seem past the point.
The London band — formed in 2008 by siblings Anna Vincent (vocals) and James Vincent (guitar, bass), Jamie Harrison (guitar, bass), Seb Underhill (keys), and Gary Drain (drums) — premiered the music video for “Endless Summer” in June, though the single only became available digitally at the start of this month.
While there aren’t many lazy, hazy, crazy days left by my calendar’s count, “Endless Summer” is an instant charmer, so you don’t need weeks to come around. My Tiger My Timing reminds me of Tom Tom Club, reopening the hydrant at the intersection where post-punk meets electro-disco. You’ll be singing along and keeping beat in a matter of seconds to the breezy “Endless Summer,” a song borne from a universal feeling shared by adults this time of year.
“‘Endless Summer’ was written on a grey, rainy day, wishing back to the carefree summers and fun of our teenage years,” Anna tells Popservations. Recorded in her bedroom (“Aside from drums!”), the band faced similarly dreary weather when it came time to film the music video on Hilly Fields in southeast London. “[Director] Ross McClure did a great job of making a drab May in the UK look hazy and golden,” she says. “We had a lot of fun making the video and I think it shows.”
Grab the frisbee, break out the bubbles, and meet your friends on the road outside while there’s still time, with “Endless Summer” as your soundtrack:
Remixes of “Endless Summer” have been completed by Kinema, Just Say Joe, and Bright Light Bright Light (turning in a fantastic ’90s twist), all of which are available as free downloads from the band’s Facebook page (link below).
With an EP and three singles (including “Endless Summer”) to their credit, My Tiger My Timing is aiming for an April 2012 release of their debut album.
