The KDMS cover Madonna

May 8, 2012 3 Comments

The KDMS is a London-based duo formed in 2009 by singer Kathy Diamond and producer Max Skiba. (Their initials give the group its name.) The KDMS recently issued their debut album, Kinky Dramas and Magic Stories, which collects previous singles, like “High Wire” and “Tonight”, plus new tracks and remixes.

In the run-up to the album’s release, The KDMS posted a cover of Madonna’s “Give Me All Your Luvin’,” giving the Queen of Pop’s record 38th top 10 hit a sultry, streetwise spin. Chucking the cheerleader chant (save a single “Madonna!” at the end) and the Nicki Minaj/M.I.A. raps, Diamond and Skiba amazingly have managed to bring “Give Me All Your Luvin’” closer to the early ’80s disco orbit of “Lucky Star.”

The KDMS’ revelatory revision makes me wish Madonna would take a break from tour rehearsals and re-record “Give Me All Your Luvin’,” copying their new template in full. But until that happens, we’ve got the next best thing — The KDMS’ cover set to classic Madonna footage.

Free download of The KDMS – “Give Me All Your Luvin’” (Madonna cover) via SoundCloud. Note: You’ll have to convert the WAV file in iTunes if you plan to listen on your iPhone or iPod.

I’ve been listening to this all week and I have to admit that I kind of love this version of the song.  I’m a bigger fan of the song than I think most Madonna fans are – it’s slight and inoffensive but those are its worst crimes.  Still, the more I listen to this, the more it feels like one of those songs from the “Gay Classics” series that are so cheesy but so fantastic all at once.

Thanks for this!  Between it and that “Causing A Commotion” mash-up, I’m in heaven.

Dan, it definitely conjures an earlier era, for sure. And like I mentioned in the post, I wish Madonna would re-record it with this feel in mind. There’s a decent song at the heart of “Give Me All Your Luvin’,” which came off as too novelty (and the Super Bowl tie-in cemented).

Thanks for the reminder re: the “Causing A Commotion” mash-up. I meant to post that one up.
