Not long after arriving in Buenos Aires, my co-workers and I lunched at Cluny. The lamb-stuffed black ravioli was fantastic, but what I remember most was the restaurant’s charming soundtrack—smooth-sounding covers of Guns N’ Roses and The Rolling Stones.
At the time, I guessed they might have been the work of Nouvelle Vague. Close, but no, just the work of some lesser-known (but no less creative) artists giving rock-n-roll songbooks a similar Bossa Nova treatment.
Perfect for a Sunday morning, from the compilation Bossa n’ Roses, check out Sixth Finger featuring Dew covering the GnR classic “Patience.” Hear here:
Who knows what Axl Rose thinks of the less-rockin’ results, though perhaps such Bossa Nova re-dos have been paying the bills to support continued work on the long-delayed Chinese Democracy album.
Purchase Bossa n’ Roses from Amazon, iTunes. Bossa n’ Stones is available, too.
